Avian Influenza - Restrictions Ending 16th May 2022

   12 May 2022

Good news for poultry enthusiasts!

  • Restrictions on the assembly of live birds are to be withdrawn on May 16, meaning that poultry gatherings, shows and sales can take place from that date
  • Enhanced mandatory Biosecurity Regulations introduced in November to help protect poultry and captive birds from avian influenza are also to be withdrawn on May 16
  • Since there remains the possibility of Avian Influenza virus being present in the environment or being transmitted to flocks by wild birds, strict biosecurity standards should remain as best practice and help to protect your flock against all poultry disease, not just Avian Influenza
  • Farmers are urged to remain vigilant and know the signs of avian influenza
